The Department of Labor’s Employment & Training Administration (ETA) funds job training programs to improve the employment prospects of adults, youth, and dislocated workers. These programs are delivered primarily by states through the One-Stop Career Center System. Training programs can vary from state to state depending on the skills that are needed to compete for jobs in the local area. All programs are aimed at boosting workers’ employability and earnings.

Towards our mission of assisting clients to attain their maximum degree of self-reliance, the Human Resources Administration helps New Yorkers in need to find work to support themselves and their families. In collaboration with a network of service providers, HRA assesses the skills of its clients and assigns them to activities that will move them towards employment. These activities, based on the background of each individual, include short-term job search, vocational training, work experience or basic education. Through these services, HRA can, in a well-structured and professional environment, build on each individual’s capacities to allow for job placement and ultimately, career advancement. We have been highly successful in moving our clients off the rolls and into jobs, and must ensure that, as people prepare to leave the system, they receive adequate continued recognition and support to remain employed. Our investment in the success of these individuals is an investment in the viability and survival of New York City. We must stimulate the economy by placing the able-bodied into the workforce, allowing them to contribute actively to their communities.
